British Science Festival
SOUNDSCALE will be at the British Science Festival 2026 in Southampton with three activities exploring how technology shapes our world.
SOUNDSCALE: Our Sonic City
What happens when the infrastructure beneath our feet becomes a sensor? This interactive exhibition explores how Distributed Acoustic Sensing collects data below our feet and opens up questions about how cities are sensed, who benefits, and how technologies may reshape planning, mobility, privacy, and public space.
The Play Protocol
How does science move beyond the lab and into public life, and who makes the decisions to get it there? Play snakes and ladders with a twist to explore what shapes research beyond the lab, from funding pressures and media attention to regulation and collaboration. The game is less about winning than uncovering how decisions are made, delayed, or redirected.
Climate ⇔ Technology Justice
Explore how technology is framed in the climate crisis, both as a fix and as a source of material impact on people and the planet. This interactive poster series maps connections with consumption, politics, urgent climate impacts, and fast-evolving technological innovations. Visitors can respond to prompts and mark their thoughts at an ink-stamp station.
